The Badminton East Zone Competition commenced today. I left my class at 1.05pm to set up the place so that we could proceed to host the tournament held in Victoria School. Our C division team was not playing today since the other schools in the same group as us were playing first. The schools in our group include Broadrick Secondary, East Spring Secondary, Greenview Secondary and St. Hildas Secondary. We would have to win three out of the four schools to be able to advance to the second round.

Since on Monday, we would be playing against Broadrick Secondary, the C division members gathered together in the hall to observe their players and find out their weaknesses. We observed the other schools as well, and mostly Greenview Secondary School, which got the 4th place in the East Zone last year after defeating us in the second round. When the tournament begun, all of us sat at the hall and started to observe our opponents' styles of play.

East Spring and St. Hildas were average schools, and when the coach asked all the players, we told him that we were confident enough to win them. Broadrick was slightly better but all of us still assured the coach that we will win them. Greenview was definitely the best among them, and watching their style of play, together as a team, we told the coach that we would win. Of course, it would not be easy if we do not put in hard work so as soon as the tournament ended, all of the badminton players immediately started to train hard and played many matches.

Together, all of the C division players had faith in ourselves, training very hard and looking towards getting the top two in the East Zone since we did not manage to get into the top 4 last year. After watching today's tournament, I was more than ready to take on all the schools that are going to face us and bringing a trophy back for Victoria School.

It is Tuesday, which is the day of my favourite P.E lesson. I've been looking forward to today as our P.E teacher had promised us to let us do the high jump, an activity which I have never done before.

We went by register number and unfortunately I was the last of the group. All of us started out to do the first stage which we were given 3 attempts to jump over the pole. The first stage was easy and many of us managed to pass. However, as we saw Mr Lee raised the pole higher for the second stage, we were all frightened. Jumping over that height was no easy task. We all took our turns and unfortunately, I failed my first two attempts. As the others continued the last try, I waited anxiously for my turn.

It was my turn to go and my legs were shivering! At this rate, I would not be able to jump over that pole! However, I mustered up my strength and at full speed, ran towards the pole and as much as my left foot could carry, I pushed myself as high up as possible with it. Boom! I landed on the mattress. I failed. I had hit the pole down in mid-air and failed. The only people who passed were Zhi Jun, Damien and Justin!

Later, they had their 3rd and final stage to go. The pole was way higher now. Although I was disappointed about my inability to jump over the 2nd stage, I still rooted for them together with the class, hoping that one of them would be able to clear the stage. After 2 tries, Damien managed to clear the final stage. The whole class cheered for him. At the forth try, Justin managed to clear the final stage as well and as a whole class, we congratulated him as well. However, sadly, Zhi Jun was unable to clear the last stage but the effort put in by him to pass the first two stages were simply amazing. Even I couldn't do it.

I will continue to train hard during P.E lessons and hopefully next year in Secondary 3, I will be able to jump at the height that i failed to do so today.

Today was indeed the most well spent Sunday this year. My father was always overseas doing business and had hardly any time to go out with our family. Finally, today, he was able to spend time with us.

All of my family members woke up very early and prepared to go out to East Coast Park to have breakfast. We left the house and prepared lots of food. Immediately after arriving, we went to find a spot to do our barbecue and found a decent one. We unpacked our stuff and started work. My grandmother sat down and looked after my younger brother who was playing with his toys. My mother helped take out the buns for my two younger sisters to munch on while my father and I started to do the barbecue.

Soon, all of us gathered around the table and started to eat. While eating, we joked around and as my primary 5 sister and I told our parents that we were appointed as Badminton captains in our schools, both my mum and dad gave us a wide smile and congratulated us. Looking at all the laughter and smiles my family members had on their faces, I smiled too.

After our breakfast, all of us went cycling. I cycled alone while my two younger sisters sat on a three sitter bicycle with my father. My younger brother sat on the bicycle with my mother. On the way, my mother actually lost control of the bike while trying to show us that she could cycle without using her hands and fell down! My father was already way ahead of us so he was oblivious to this incident. I immediately stopped my bike and went to see how my mother was doing. She had a big bruise on her knee while my younger brother, fortunately, had no injuries. Since my mother was able to carry on, she continued cycling until we finally reached the end. My father saw what happened and quickly took out some cream to apply on my mother's knee. He then laughed at my mother and said that she could never do what he does best and all of us burst out laughing. Even my grandmother who did not understand English chuckled after seeing us laugh with all our wide smiles.

This might not be some special day to others but definitely a very meaningful one to me. It is not every day that I can have this type of special day with my family, especially with all my school work. I know that deep in my heart, no one and nothing can express the bond I share with my family and this outing has definitely strengthened the deep love I have for my family members.

Today, I really learnt a very important lesson. An incident that took place in the canteen in just that 35 minutes has really gave me some important lessons to be learnt.

I was just dismissed from P.E lesson and headed straight to class to change into my uniform. Worried that I would have to join a long queue when going to order my food, I instantly rushed down after changing and headed straight for the canteen. However, it was already crowded over there and every single stall had their queues extended to at least near the tables and benches. "Oh No! I'm too late!" I thought to myself, snapping my fingers.

At that time, I had a craving for chicken rice and would do anything just to get me that fragrant plate of rice with chilli and dark sauce all over the chicken. The queue was really very long and not wanting to get caught in the long queue, I took my chance while a small boy was talking to his friend and stood in front of people. I started whistling, trying to pretend that nothing had happened. All of a sudden, that boy left the queue and I heaved a sigh of relief, thinking to myself," Yes! He's gone! At least now I don't have to worry about him finding out.''

Just when I was about to order my food, I heard a loud, booming voice coming from behind me. It was Mr Chia, the discipline master shouting,"Who's that boy?" Beside him was the boy who was actually queueing behind me! He lifted his finger and pointed directly at me. As what every student will do, I looked to my left and right, hoping that I was not the one he was pointing at. Well, it was me, he was pointing at me.

Mr Chia ordered me to come out of the queue. He told me that it was this boy, this secondary one boy who reported to him about me cutting the queue. He disciplined me strictly and said that I was the one supposed to teach these secondary one boys how to behave but now this boy is the one teaching me how to behave. Due to this and all the other Victorians looking at me, i was utterly mortified. Fortunately, Mr Chia gave me a chance and told me never to do it again.

From this day on , I resolved to practice the four 'don'ts' a Victoria should do. Don't cheat, don't steal, don't bully and don't lie. And this definitely taught me not to cheat!

"Bang!" "Boom!'' It has been a long time ever since I heard all those sounds , and where else better to hear it than the arcade!

Ever since the December holidays ended, it was all work and CCA. It has been the same ever since school started and today, I finally get a chance to enjoy myself and release all the stress I have been experiencing the past 2 weeks! My parents were outside working and thanks to the hard work I have been putting in to study and the dedication I put in to my CCA, they allowed me to go out and do something I enjoy as long as I came back home for dinner. Of course, like every teenager would, I chose to go to the arcade at the newly opened shopping mall, NEX.

It was really crowded over there and as I entered the arcade, all those banging and booming sounds were like music to my ears. I hastily went to exchange my coins for tokens and started playing the games. There were just so many that I did not know which one to begin with!

I first went to the area where the basketball games were. I had to throw each basketball into the net within one minute and if I reach a certain number of points, I could continue on to the next stage. It was so tiring! After completing that game, I finished with a total of 514 points! However, the high score there was 625! I really wonder which person was so amazing to finish with so much points.

Then, I went to the play the dancing corner where I had to step on the arrow keys that appeared on a screen. I really messed up with that. I looked at all the people beside me doing it and really felt embarrassed. All of them could do it so smoothly while I had so much difficulty catching up with the speed of the arrows.

Finally, I went to the so-called 'Pick up the sweets' corner where I had to control a machine hand to pick up as many sweets as I could for each token I put in. I spent so many tokens at that and got so little sweets! My mum really nagged a lot at me when I brought those sweet homes and showed it to her. She said she could buy at least 10 packets of mentos with the amount of money I spent catching those sweets! That was really saddening!

This day at the arcade really allowed me to let go of all the pressure I have been dealing with while doing school work. I really hope to have a day like this again, probably in the March holidays!
